Election Overhaul Bill Passes FL House

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- The Florida House has voted to once again overhaul the state's elections law by expanding the time allowed for early voting and the number of early voting locations.

House members on Tuesday -- the first day of the annual legislative session -- approved 118-1 a bill (HB 7013) that increases the possible days of early voting from eight to 14. It allows early-voting polling places at more kinds of sites. And it sets a 75-word limit on proposed initial ballot summaries to constitutional amendments.

The bill reverses many of the changes to the state's elections law made in 2011 that many blame for confusion and long lines at the polls last year. A companion (SB 600) to the House bill is in the Senate.
