Elba Rallies Past Ariton at South Regional Tournament

The Ariton Girls Basketball Team spent this season making school history. But, the Purple Cats dream season came to a screeching halt against Elba on Tuesday.

The Tigers rallied from a 20-13 halftime deficit to defeat Ariton 43-37 in the 2A Regional Semifinals at the Dothan Civic Center. With the win, the Tigers advanced to face the winner of Flomaton and Providence Christian in the 2A Regional Final on Friday.

The Purple Cats used stingy defense and timely offense to build an early 10-0 lead, and a 20-13 halftime advantage. But, Elba came out red hot after the break, outscoring the Purple Cats 14-5 in the third quarter to take the lead.

And, the Tigers put this game away at the free throw line, hitting 10-of-14 shots from the charity stripe to salt the game away. A'Jaspin Whitfield led Elba with 15 points and Alondria Sims chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Emily Snyder and Nicole McInerney each scored 13 points for Ariton. The Purple Cats end the year with a 24-2 record.
