Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic Begins

Marquez White scores 27 points, leading Northview past Malone 77-61 in the first round of the Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic. With the win, the Cougars advanced to face Barbour County in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Northview broke open a close game with 25 points in the third quarter, turning a one-point halftime lead into an 12-point advantage heading to the final period. The Cougars shot 64 percent from the field in the second half to secure the win.

White led the way, scoring at will in the third period as the Cougars pulled away. The Florida State commitment added seven rebounds in 27 minutes of work.

Despite a cold second and third quarter, the Tigers managed to muster a final run in the fourth period. Malone closed the gap to six points with three minutes to play, before the Cougars pulled away for the victory.

Chai Baker had 16 points to lead Malone, while his brother Ty added 13 points before fouling out.

Barbour County - 80 Ashford - 36

Barbour County jumped out to a 28-8 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, crushing Ashford 80-36 in the opening game of the tournament. The Jaguars will face Northview at 3:30 on Friday in the quarterfinals.

Travon Patterson scored 22 points and J.C. Hobdy added 18 for the Jaguars who dominated the game from start to finish. Barbour County was especially effective from 3-point range, hitting 12-of-23 shots from downtown.

Antany Hollinger led Ashford with 12 points.

Abbeville - 72 Geneva - 47

Trey Grimsley scored 27 points, including 21 in the first half, as Abbeville rolled past Geneva 72-47 and into the quarterfinals of the Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic. The Yellow Jackets will face Headland on Friday.

Telly Shaw added 14 points, and Christian Stamper chipped in nine points and 14 rebounds for Abbeville.

Marcus Wilson led Geneva with 10 points.

Headland - 51 Providence Christian - 41

LeBrannon Nix had 12 points and 11 rebounds, leading Headland past Providence Christian in Wednesday''s final first round game. The Rams will play rival Abbeville for the fourth time this season when the teams meet in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Justin Simpson and Anthony Keith also scored 12 points each for the Rams.

Nathan Turner led Providence Christian with 13 points.
