The Dothan Police Department arrested a man in connection to a Tuesday morning assault.

Investigators say a 32-year-old man was assaulted by Kahlif Cooper, 33, in the 700 block of Westmead Street. The alleged incident began after Cooper went to the residence of a mutual friend to recover personal property.

According to police, the victim was confronted in the backyard of the residence by Cooper, and then assaulted with a baseball bat. The victim suffered injuries to several parts of his body and was transported to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Cooper was taken into custody several blocks from where the incident occurred and has now been charged with attempted murder. He also faces a charge of first degree robbery. Investigators say that after the assault, Cooper took an undisclosed amount of money and a cellular phone from the victim prior to leaving the scene. That property was located when officers took Cooper into custody.

No bond has been set for Cooper.
