They say quick attention to detail by one resident and quick response from officers, helped solve the case.
A simple call by a concerned resident helped Dothan police bring down two criminals.
“An alert witness saw two suspects enter a home located on Stonebridge road.” Dothan Police Sergeant Rachel David said.
Nearby officers came to check out what was going on
“When the first responding officer pulled up in the area, to suspects did flee from the area and the officer was immediately involved in a foot pursuit.” David said.
The chase didn't last long before a juvenile was caught a few blocks away.
“The second suspect was able to evade and remained at large for a short time until officers got involved in a second foot pursuit.” David said.
This one didn’t end as smoothly.
Police say 18-year-old Courtney Byrd took off down south Lena Street. They say that's where his run came to an abrupt stop.
“He did run across the road and ran into the path of an oncoming patrol car.” David said.
He was taken to a local hospital and released with minor leg injuries.
David says they were glad to catch the two in action, because often one successful crime leads to others.
“Sometimes we see they have a criminal past. And sometimes a successful first burglary will give them courage to continue burglarizing and victimizing people.” David said.
David says the next step in the investigation, is to see if the two suspects are linked to any other burglaries in the area.
Police aren't releasing much about the juvenile in this case,
However, Byrd is being charged with third degree burglary.
