Dothan PD on Scene of Shooting

Officers flooded the plaza off Reeves Street in Dothan, to find one person dead inside of a truck.

“We're treating it as a homicide. There was a person of interest taken into custody as well as a diseased individual.”

Police aren't releasing information about the driver, or much of the case at all.
However witnesses were able to tell us more details of what happened.
Just after one o’clock this afternoon, Dothan resident Amber Barnes was in this plaza getting her hair done when she heard a commotion outside.

“Had the hand dryer drying my hair and then I asked Mr.? Is that gun shots?” Witness Amber Barnes said.

“I said no, it doesn’t sound like it. Then we heard it happen again, and I was like three shots? “Witness Robert Merritt said.

That’s when Merritt and Barnes saw a truck swerve, and crash straight into a building.

“This is sad right here, I’m trying to hold my tears back because that’s terrible.”

They say after the crash, they learned the person in the truck tried to rob "Yo Way" fashions...but didn’t get far.
They say someone from that store came out with a gun, and shot the driver...causing the person to die on the scene.

“And I say it’s a dreadful day out here because I’ve been out here since 1994 I’ve never seen anything like this to see crime is still on the rise in the area, I tell you it’s sad you have to give a life just to take something that doesn’t belong to you.” Barnes said.

Merritt says the next time he walks outside his store front, the view will never be the same.

“I come out my store front in plaza two, we need a whole lot of prayers going on for this world.” Merritt said.

Corporal Eggleston with the Dothan police department says this is still a homicide investigation.
They will release more information in the next couple of days.

Just after 1:00 this afternoon, Dothan Police pulled Plaza 2 off Reeves Street. That's where they found one person dead in a truck.

Cpl. Maurice Eggleston says the department is investigating the shooting as a homicide.

We talked to witnesses who saw this incident happen.

A barber at this shop says he was with a client and heard gun shots across the street.

They claim they saw a truck swerve and then crash into a building.

After talking to other witnesses, the barber says someone tried to rob the Yo Way store in the shopping plaza.

When that person ran out and jumped into the truck, witnesses say someone working at the store followed and shot the truck driver.

That's when the truck ran into the building.
