Dothan Mayor Comments on Possible Ft. Rucker Cuts

Fort Rucker is faced with losing 500 student pilots and 37,000 hours of aviation training if legislated spending cuts take place next month.

Mayor Schmitz says the Wiregrass' economy will be hit hard if passed.

"They're the biggest part of our economy with $1.5 billion and when you lose the flight hours and you lose the personnel you lose thre revenue.
It affects it many times forward in our economy so it's just not good."

The mayor says city leaders have contacted state representatives and asked them to resolve the issue quickly.
