Dothan Man Arrested for Stalking Over 18 Women

A Dothan man has been arrested on felony stalking charges.

50-year-old Philip Van McArdle allegedly called and terrorized at least 18 women for several months and years.

Authorities say he would call victims, tell them what clothing they had on and then make sexual threats.

The investigation has taken several months because McArdle used a pay-as-you-go cell phone to call victims.

Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes said officers had to use new tactics to bring this case to a close.

"It's been very frustrating and I'm sure the victims thought we forgot about them, but we never did and we never gave up," Hughes said.

"I hope we can bring some of these women closure because they lived with uncertainty for too long."

Authorities searched McArdle's home Friday night and recovered the cellphone as evidence.

McArdle is being held at the Houston County Jail on a $150,000 bond.

He faces one felony stalking charge, as well as possesion of an illegal firearm. More charges are pending.

MacArdle is a convicted felon is not allowed to own a firearm.

Authorities are not saying how McArdle chose his victims, got their numbers or if they are connected.
