Dothan Inmate Escapes

Dothan Police say they have captured a prisoner who escaped after he was taken to a local hospital.

The Dothan Eagle reports Collin Bennett, who is being held on felony theft charges, evaded police for about an hour before being found Saturday evening.

Dothan police Lt. Brian Cherry says Bennett was taken to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center's emergency room after he complained of having an undisclosed medical problem.

Cherry says the suspect managed to run away from an officer and escape into woods behind the hospital.

He says police caught Bennett in a housing subdivision nearby after using a helicopter to search from the air.
