Morris Slingluff Elementary school recently made headlines for it's academic achievements.
Tuesday Dothan city commissioners presented the school with a certificate of recognition.
Slingluff Elementary has been awarded the title of Torchbearer school by the state of Alabama for the second year in a row!
This year they are one of twenty schools across the state to receive the award from the Alabama State Board of Education.
"We have a very dedicated staff who is very passionate about what they do, they come to in early and leave late and they take their work home with them," said Slingluff Elementary Principal Teresa Davis.
The title is awarded to high-poverty schools with children who overcome economic hardships to excel in the classroom, like high test scores.
