Denmark: The Most Advanced Artificial Hand

Close up of hand holding

Matteo Bovmundt is the first Dane who has been equipped with the most advanced artificial hand in the world.

The hand is a so-called Myo Electric Hand Prosthesis, which is confusingly similar to a real hand, and is also very close to behaving like one.

It is controlled by electrodes, which are located next to the muscles that you normally use, when you want to open or close your hand.

Therefore, the hand can grip in seven different ways and can for example grab a bottle, like a normal hand would do.

This has given Bovmundt a whole new life.

In 2011, approximately 500 Danes had a piece of their arm amputated.
