The US government is set to cut five hundred billion dollars from the defense department over the next ten years.

Last week, Alabama Lieutenant Governor Kay Ivey appointed Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell to a statewide military stability foundation committee.

Mayor Boswell sees it as an opportunity to not only protect the military's interests in the state, but expand it as well.

With fewer dollars, there's speculation Florida's congressional delegation may attempt to consolidate most military helicopter training at Whiting field, a naval military installation in Milton outside of Pensacola.

"There's a lot of things that can come to Ft. Rucker, a lot of training that is important." Mayor Boswell said.

Several defense insiders' say presidential politics may play a role with Florida considered a key electoral swing state for both the republicans and democrats.
