ASHFORD, Ala. (AP) -- A south Alabama town is planning to hold an "amnesty court," giving residents with outstanding warrants an opportunity to avoid being arrested if they show up that day.

The Dothan Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/1dxHnh3) that Ashford plans to hold the amnesty court at 2 p.m. on April 7.

Ashford City Clerk Kimberley Speed said the city's amnesty court is designed for people who have outstanding warrants accusing them of failing to appear in court on a variety of misdemeanor charges or traffic offenses.

Speed recommends that people interested in taking advantage of the program contact the municipal court no later than 4 p.m. on April 3.
