DeKalb Man Gets 18 Years for Fatally Beating Son

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Benjamin Edetanlen was sentenced Wednesday.

Assistant District Attorney Dalia Racine says Edetanlen used the Bible to justify beating his 5-month-old, his 2-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son.

Edetanlen said he adhered to the bible verse Proverbs 13, which gave him the reason to beat his children.

But prosecutors say Edetanlen went too far and his discipline killed his child in his home in 2004.

Prosecutors say the boy died from blunt force trauma.

He suffered brain injuries and a broken leg.

Edetanlen's wife faces a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after she allegedly did nothing to stop the abuse.
