On Oct 1, DeFuniak Springs Police received a report that a dog had been intentionally cut in the area of N. 9th Ave. Officers responded to the area where they spoke with the owner of the dog. The owner of the dog was able to give the police a description and possible location of the suspect.
According to the owner, the suspect came onto the owner’s property. When the dog began to bark, the owner advised the suspect that the animal wouldn’t bite, The suspect then took out an unknown object out of his pocket and cut the dog across it’s snout.
Officers were able to locate the suspect, Bennie L. Matthews, 52, of DeFuniak Springs. Matthews was transported to the Walton County Corrections Facility on cruelty to animal charges.
