DOT Conducting Repair Work on I-59 in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- The Alabama Department of Transportation says motorists can expect some delays this weekend along Interstate 59 in Birmingham and Trussville as lanes are closed temporarily for road work.

Reports say crews are repairing and replacing crash cushions along the interstate Saturday and Sunday. The state DOT says the work is scheduled between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. both says this weekend.

Officials say the northbound left shoulder of the roadway would be closed all day Saturday from near the Advent Circle overpass to the overpass north of Trussville.

On Sunday morning the southbound left lane is scheduled to be closed from 31st Street to 22nd Street. The DOT plans to close the northbound left lane around the Chaklville Road overpass in Trussville on Sunday afternoon.
