According to reports, the Department of Defense is moving forward with budget cuts that would close all but a few state-side commissaries in the next 3-years.
Military.com reports the Pentagon's comptroller wants the agency's budget reduced by a billion dollars over the next 3-years.
The plan could result in the closure of all but 24 commissaries in the states.
It's being reviewed by military service leaders.
DOD officials say the closures would save $800 to $900 million a year.
Alabama commissaries are located at Redstone Arsenal, Maxwell Air Force Base, Maxwell-Gunter Annex, and Fort Rucker.
The Pentagon is required to give Congress 90-days notice before closing or consolidating any commissaries.
