After weeks of bulldozing and taking down an old hotel, downtown traffic is now flowing a little more smoothly.
“We’re very happy that building came down we had very few incidents.” Executive director of the DDRA Jansen Tidmore said.
The space can now be used to impact downtown even further.
“We got the sod out there this week so we got a nice green space right now and we are going to market it for development.” Tidmore said.
But the Wadlington hotel isn’t the only building that had to go.
An old bail bonds building is in the process of being taken down as well.
“Well be taking that building down and creating a green space. And what’s most important is reworking the way that parking lot egresses and digresses” Tidmore said.
The city of Dothan will be doing the demolition for free.
And if approved, it can happen as quickly as 30 days.
“I’ve been really impressed with the amount of work they have been able to get done and accomplish working with the city and also working with private investors.” Executive director of the Downtown Group Jill Reading said.
Reading hopes these changes and many others will bring more people to downtown Dothan.
The redevelopment authority and downtown group want to remind everyone, that despite any construction, downtown is still open for business.
