Dothan, AL - High school football players have put in the time, work, and sweat. Now they’re ready to kick off the season.
But first, the stadium has to be ready.
Crews with Dothan Leisure Services have put in plenty of time this summer making sure Rip Hewes Stadium is in good shape for Northview and Dothan High Schools’ teams to hit the field.
“The field maintenance has been going on all summer. We fertilized it, and cut it on a daily basis,” Matt Barefield, Dothan Leisure Services.
But the extra rain this summer has slowed them down.
Barefield said, “You want to keep the grass at a certain height. If you can’t get out here to cut the grass, when you do get out here you have to cut it a layer at a time.”
Now they’re putting on the finishing touches by pressure washing the bleachers, painting the field, and making sure the score board is working.
“We try to put the best face forward that we can. We want the city to look good and we want the participants and the fans to enjoy themselves,” said Kenny Thompson, Dothan Leisure Services.
From Pee Wee to Varsity, more than fifty games will played at Rip Hewes Stadium this year.
Both Northview and Dothan High Schools Jamborees will be played at Rip Hewes this week.
Dothan plays Abbeville Thursday night, and Northview plays Carver Friday.
Kick-off is set for seven o'clock each night.
We'll have all the highlights in our first Friday Night Football show of the season this week.
It starts at 10:30 p.m.
