NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- One person was killed in an accident involving a car and a charter bus carrying Florida school children on Interstate 10 in eastern New Orleans.
Police said the car was eastbound on the rain-slick highway Thursday morning when the driver lost control. The car crossed the median into the westbound lane and was struck by one of three buses carrying students on a field trip from Walker Elementary School in Crestview, Florida.
The car's driver died. Her identity had not been release as of early afternoon.
Police said no students were hurt.
Bus driver Bill Henderson said he was able to miss the car, but the driver behind him could not avoid hitting it. He credited that bus's driver with safely steering the bus off the highway.
