Cost of Infections from Health Care Facilities

A new study shows infections that develop in patients at hospitals and other health care settings cost an estimated $9.8 billion.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School say surgical site infections and pneumonia caused by ventilators are two of the most common and costly kinds of health-care associated infections.

Researchers say while steps have been taken to reduce the number of preventable infections, more needs to be done.
