If Congress does not pass a new spending bill, the government will run out of money on Oct. 1. If lawmakers don’t raise the nation’s borrowing limit by this fall, the government will not be able to pay its bills.
A new poll shows 99 percent of the public likes the law. However, any attempts to block it in the house, would fail in the Senate. The White House fears the back and forth would hurt the economy.
