With a six to one vote Dothan City Commissioners have approved the 2011 Community Development Block Grant projects.

"There was well over $1.2 million requested to be funded by the CDBG and out of that funding there's only $480,000 that has come through," said City Manager Mike West.

The one "nay" came from District one Commissioner James Reading.
Of the 16 approved projects, he disagreed with funding Aunt Katie's Community Garden, citing that he feels their grant request report was flawed.

"Mainly on the number of poundage that was alleged to have been produced. I just want a complete accounting for all the funds," said Reading.

The owner of Aunt Katie's Garden says the funds are definitely needed.

"It allows me to allocate a certain amount of funds to pay folks in the community to work here. I will also allocate a small amount of funds to hire a dietitian and also the funds will be used for supplies seeds and water," said Michael Jackson.

Jackson says even though his project was approved all he can do now is wait.

"It still has a two step process that has to take place after today, number one that grant application will go to hud for approval, once that's approved the city will have to work up individual agreements with each agency on what they intend to do with those funds and how they intend to account for those funds," said West.
