Commissioners Approve Phase 1 for James O. Oates Park

Blueprint

DOTHAN, AL--An old park project for the city of Dothan takes a step forward.

Tuesday Dothan city commissioners agreed to move forward with phase one of development for the James O. Oates Park.

Phase one involves getting a company to create a design.

The park will be located between Campbellton Highway and Taylor Road.

The current plan includes a 6-field little league complex and a 6-field girls softball complex.

"The significance of six fields is it'll let us attract big tournaments that bring people into our community to spend money and also the benefit of having 12 fields may allow us to get a lot bigger tournaments to come in here," said Dothan City Manager Mike West.

West says the project could cost more than 10 million dollars.
Commissioners are expected to discuss the plans further at their next meeting.
