Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton says the mobile home occupant came to assist in securing the animals and they have been brought to Elba Animal Shelter.

WITH THE DOOR OF THE MOBILE HOME WIDE OPEN, MIXED BREED DOGS RAN IN AND OUT OF THE RESIDENCE OFF COFFEE COUNTY ROAD 625 IN THE ASBURY COMMUNITY. AUTHORITIES SAY THEY INITIALLY RESPONDED TO THE SCENE OVER THE WEEKEND AFTER GETTING CALLS FROM NEARBY RESIDENTS.
COFFEE COUNTY SHERIFF INVESTIGATORS DESCRIBE THE INSIDE OF THE MOBILE HOME AS "DEPLORABLE". RECENTLY, THE OCCUPANTS REPORTEDLY LEFT LEAVING MORE THAN A DOZEN DOGS INSIDE. BUT, SHERIFF DAVE SUTTON SAYS THE ANIMALS APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN FED...., AND THERE ARE "NO" CRIMINAL CHARGES AT THIS TIME. THE OCCUPANTS ARE NOW LIVING OUTSIDE COFFEE SPRINGS IN GENEVA COUNTY.
SHERIFF SUTTON SAYS THE ELBA ANIMAL SHELTER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED TO BE ON STAND-BY IF THE TRAILER OCCUPANT DOES NOT RETURN TO TAKE CARE OF THE DOGS......
COFFEE COUNTY DOES NOT HAVE AN ANIMAL SHELTER.
IT CONTRACTS WITH THE CITY OF ELBA TO HANDLE STRAY AND ABANDONED ANIMALS....,
