CLANTON, Ala. (AP) -- Chilton County commissioners have voted to give a closed hospital nearly $1 million.
Commissioners decided during a meeting Monday night to provide $960,000 to the board that operates Chilton Medical Center in Clanton.
The funding will go towards reopening the hospital. It closed late last month because it couldn't meet its payroll.
Chilton residents who need a hospital now have to drive miles to another county. Chilton Medical Center is the only hospital in a 60-mile stretch between Shelby and Autauga counties.
The state has suspended the hospital's operating license, but it delayed a hearing on whether to revoke the license.
