UPDATE 7:50am-- Please advise the public to use caution driving in the area of Smithville Road, and US 231 South, and State Hwy 109 near Smithville Road for cattle that may be loose and possibly in the roadway due to a traffic accident earlier today on Smithville Road involving a cattle truck.
Authorities are currently in the process of rounding up the cattle.
Early this morning a call came out for a motor vehicle accident. When deputies arrived, they found a semi truck pulling a cattle trailer.
The semi was a doubledecker cattle trailer loaded with more than 35 head of cattle.
The driver of the truck was trapped due to the wreck but was removed and transported to a local hospital.
Between 7-10 cows escaped from the wreckage and are currently on the loose around Smithville Road .
Some cows were trapped under the trailer wreckage. The bulls in the upper deck were trampling on the cows in the lower deck.
The cattle that are injured will more than likely be euthanized.
A local vet has also been called to the scene to assist.
Alabama State Troopers and the Houston County Sheriff's Office are assisting.
