DEFUNIAK SPRINGS- CHELCO Employees for Children recently presented the Walton County Sheriff’s Office with a $2,000 donation for Walton County’s Santa Patrol.
The money was raised by CHELCO employees during various local fundraising events in DeFuniak Springs and represents the first of two installments. The second donation will be presented after the annual CHELCO Employees for Children barbeque to be held Dec. 6.
For the past 21 years, CHELCO employees have worked together through the program to help ensure that some of the area’s less fortunate children have a Merry Christmas. CHELCO Employees for Children is an employee-run, charitable organization created by a group of employees who wanted to share their blessings by giving back during the holiday season. Employees do this by hosting fundraisers, such as the upcoming barbeque, during the holiday season. CHELCO employees volunteer their time and efforts so that 100% of the proceeds go to help purchase Christmas gifts for the children who may otherwise not have a very Merry Christmas.
“The program has grown through the years and just keeps growing,” said Operations Supervisor, Jerry Cosson. “It brings joy to everyone involved; joy to the person volunteering and joy to the child receiving gifts; joy all the way around.”
WCSO’S Santa Patrol has also been providing for local children who might not otherwise have Christmas gifts for the past 15 years.
“This is a chance for the public to make a Walton County child’s Christmas a little brighter. To see the look on a family’s face knowing that they won’t have to go without is the greatest gift of all,” said Lt. Danny Garner, who is overseeing the program this year.
