BIRMINGHAM, AL -- Payton Burnett and Amahni Upshaw each recorded double doubles, leading Brantley past Loachapoka 43-31 in the Class 1A Girls State Championship Game on Friday morning. The Bulldogs captured their second straight 1A title, one year after beating Keith for the championship.

Burnett scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Upshaw added 13 points and 10 boards for Brantley (27-5). The Bulldogs outrebounded Loachapoka 35-27.

But, it was defense that sparked the Bulldogs title repeat, as Brantley held Loachapoka to 24 percent shooting for the game, including just 15 percent from 3-point range.

Brantley started fast on Friday morning, jumping out to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter. Loachapoka cut the Bulldogs lead to three points at halftime, but would get no closer.

Upshaw was named Class 1A Tournament MVP, averaging 12 points and 10 rebounds over the Buldogs two wins in Birmingham.

Nautika Philpot led Loachapoka (27-3) with eight points.
