Boy Dies While Playing on Obstacle Course

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say an 8-year-old Jacksonville boy died after a rope swing wrapped around his neck as he played on an obstacle course while his brother practiced football nearby.

Reports suggest the child's little sister found him on the ground about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday at The Bolles School's Bartram Road campus. Their father was watching football practice.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Shawn Coarsey says the little girl first thought her brother was clowning around. She tickled him, but got no response.

Reports say a couple of doctors who were among the parents watching football practice rushed over to help the child. He was already dead.

The sheriff's office did not release the child's name. An investigation is continuing.
