Hostage Heroes “How They Did It”.

UPDATE 11:00PM

Bomb technicians with the FBI, Alabama Bureau of Investigation, and Dothan Police Department completed their work Wednesday and cleared the crime scene. No additional devices were found. As indicated in last night's update, two devices were discovered yesterday - one located inside the bunker, the other in the plastic pipe that was used to communicate with the suspect.

Once the bomb technicians finished their work, evidence response teams began to process the scene. We anticipate that the processing of the scene could continue for the next 2-3 days.

The Shooting Review Team that was dispatched from Washington D.C to review the facts of this incident, arrived yesterday and continue to gather information.

The autopsy to determine the official cause of death of Jimmy Lee Dykes is scheduled for Thursday.

UPDATE 2/6/2013

We're learning more about the events that led up to Jimmy Lee Dykes taking 5-year-old Ethan hostage last week.

Former FBI assistant director John Miller breaks down what happened on Charles Poland's school bus last Tuesday:

"This videotape doesn't unfold over seconds - it unfolds over minutes. He comes on the bus and he knows the bus driver. The bus driver had dropped a pie off at his house that day. He says I want two children, and Charlie Poland opens the emergency door and lets all the children escape, but Ethan is sitting in the front seat and he just freezes. And then for the next few minutes, Dykes is saying I'm taking this boy with me, and Charlie Poland says no you're not. And Dykes says if you try to stop me I'm going to shoot you. And you can tell on the video the driver is frightened but he stands his ground."

Miller says in the course of the negotiations with Dykes, negotiators tried to find a third party who Dykes would trust but the FBI discovered Dykes had no friends.

The FBI says when they stormed the bunker on Monday, Dykes engaged in a fire-fight with them before he was killed. Yesterday, agents discovered explosives on Dykes' property.

Bomb technicians with the FBI, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Dothan Police Department continue to search the crime scene for explosive hazards.

Two devices were located and disrupted today. One device was located inside the bunker. The other device was located in the plastic pipe the subject told the negotiators to use to communicate with him.

The search for hazards is expected to continue through tomorrow.

When the bomb technicians finish, Evidence Response Teams will begin to process the scene which could take several days.

Preliminary investigation indicates the subject engaged in a firefight with the SWAT agents who made entry.

It also appears that the subject reinforced the bunker against any attempted entry by law enforcement.

The Sheriff's Department and the Alabama Department of Public Safety are working with displaced residents are being considered on a case by case basis so they can take care of animals and other needs.

The shooting review team continues to gather facts regarding the incident.

Pictures have been provided of the bunker scene in Midland City.

The first photo captures a tent that covers the bunker where a 5 year old toddler was rescued by law enforcement after being held for nearly a week. FBI Agents placed the blue tent over the bunker to protect any evidence below.

Another image shows FBI Agents and Dale County negotiators used this pipe to communicate with Jimmy Dykes.

Also there are images of FBI Agents and Dale County Sheriff's Deputies securing the residence where a 5 year old child was rescued after being held hostage for almost one week.
