Blount Rallies for Thirlling Win Over McGill-Toolen at South Regional Tournament

Blount Head Coach Jeffrey Pope said he couldn't watch. It turns out Pope missed the play of the game.

Demetrius Caldwell rebounded his own missed free throw and found Eric Norwood underneath, who kicked to Devin Gales for a lay-in, lifting Blount to an improbable 45-44 win over McGill-Toolen at the 6A South Regional Final. With the win, the Leopards advanced to the Final 48 in Birmingham.

Gale's lay-in ended a wild sequence for the Leopards who rallied from four points down in the final 30 seconds. Divine Myles hit a shot in the lane to pull Blount within two points.

The Yellow Jackets turned the ball over on their ensuing possession, setting up a drive for Caldwell, who was fouled. After making his first free throw, Caldwell missed the second, before saving the day for the Leopards.

T.J. Lang's halfcourt 3-pointer at the buzzer rimmed out, sending Blount to Birmingham. McGill-Toolen ends the year with a 25-7 record.

Myles led Blount with 12 points, winning tournament MVP honors. Lang led the Jackets with 12 points.
