UPDATE: 20-Year-Old from Bangkok Thailand Killed in Destin Crash

UPDATE - 5:15 p.m.

DESTIN, FL -- A 20-year-old woman from Bangkok, Thailand was struck by a car and killed early on Thursday morning in Destin. Investigators say Parichat Chatmas was struck on her bicycle near the intersection of Highway 98 and Vinings Way.

Police report Chatmas was trying to cross Highway 98 around 7 a.m. on Thursday morning when she was hit by a man driving a Ford F-150 pick-up truck. She was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital of the Emerald Coast where she was pronounced dead around 8 a.m.

Investigators say Chatmas was here on a J-1 Cultural Exchange Visa and had just arrived from Thailand March 14th. She was on her way to work at a McDonalds in South Walton County when the accident took place.

The accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.


DESTIN, FL -- An early morning accident in Destin has left one person dead. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident involving a car versus a bicycle that took place shortly after 7 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The female bicyclist was pronounced dead after being transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital of the Emerald Coast in South Walton County. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, who at this time are believed to live outside the country.

Police report the accident took place near the intersection of Highway 98 and Vinings Way.
