A Dothan Police Department School Resource Officer has been arrested after allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a high school student.
According to a press release, on Sept. 17 a complaint was forwarded by the Dothan City Schools to the Dothan Police Department regarding a complaint of an inappropriate relationship involving a high school student.
Dothan Police Internal Affairs Investigators conducted an investigation. During the course of the investigation, criminal allegations surfaced and the case was turned over to the Dothan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
Lanice Bonds, 37, of Dothan, was interviewed as to the facts of the case and confessed to his involvement. On Sept. 24 Bonds was taken into custody and charged with a “School employee engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19”, Alabama Criminal Code section 13A-6-81. Termination proceedings are underway against Bonds in accordance with the City of Dothan Personnel Rules and Regulations.
In a press release, the Dothan Police Department said the following: "We are dedicated to the protection of all citizens. Its men and women consider it a great honor to be tasked with upholding the laws of the city, state and nation. Our officers are held to a higher standard and expectations are great. When one of our officers violates the position of trust bestowed upon him, it is the department’s obligation to investigate and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law."
Bonds, has been charged with a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19. His bond has been set at $250,000.
