Athens Man Acquitted of Charges from Home Invasion

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- A Clarke County jury has acquitted a 21-year-old man of all charges stemming from a home invasion robbery last year in which one of the victims was sexually assaulted.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that Shamar Refeal Johnson of Athens was found not guilty Wednesday of an armed robbery at an apartment on Aug. 8, 2011.

Johnson was initially charged with 29 counts that included armed robbery, burglary, aggravated assault, kidnapping, aggravated sexual battery and other felonies.

Johnson's co-defendants entered guilty pleas August 27 in connection to the home invasion. A judge sentenced Tracy Brown to 12 years in prison and 58 years of probation; Eric Brown received 10 years in prison and 35 years of probation; and Corbin Marrs got 10 years in prison and 55 years of probation.
