On Friday, February 17 Assured Data Destruction and MidSouth Bank will offer residents the opportunity to have their paper records and data storage materials shredded and recycled during the Community Shred Day. This free event aims to raise public awareness of the need to securely destroy confidential material in order to prevent identify theft and fraud, as well as to encourage people to recycle more.

“Identify theft crimes in the United States are at an all time high,” said Development Officer Cynthia Green. Assured Data Destruction, a business division of Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center (WRC), Inc., specializes in plant-based document destruction. Assured Data Destruction provides a full range of secure, confidential services to private companies and government agencies. Assured has the highest security standards ensuring confidential information is protected while complying with federal and state regulations.

“When people securely dispose of their sensitive documentation, their risk of identity theft decreases dramatically,” said Green. Green added, “Holding a community shred day for residents gives everyone a chance to protect themselves from identity theft.”

Materials will be collected on February 17 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at MidSouth Bank located at 520 North Broadway Street in Ashford. “The Shred Day event allows citizens to stay one step ahead of identity thieves by shredding their sensitive documents,” said Anne Rumble, Assured Data Destruction Sales Associate. “Additionally, it’s one more way Assured Data Destruction and MidSouth Bank can demonstrate our commitment to improving the lives of our customers and Wiregrass residents.” Accepted items to be properly disposed of include old bills, check stubs, health information, or any other confidential information that has accumulated over the years. Participants do not need to remove staples, paper clips, folders, or rubber bands from documents.

The drop-off event is open to the public. There is a maximum of 5 boxes limit per vehicle.
