Ashford Police to Cut Dispatch Unit

The town of Ashford plans to save money by cutting the Police Department's dispatch unit.

Ashford's Mayor says the city's financial situation is the reason for the cuts.

The city's revenue is barely enough to cover their expenditures.

He says the city has the potential to go bankrupt next year if they don't some cuts.

Four full time dispatchers and one part time dispatcher work for the unit.

The cuts will save the city $150,000.

"You can't be in my position and not have an emotional tie to the whole situation, my heart is screaming but when it comes to a managerial stand-point i have to be fiscally responsible to the city of Ashford," said Ashford Mayor, Jonathan Grecu.

They plan to have Ashford’s Dispatch Center open until the end of the month.

The Houston County E-911 dispatch center will take over.
