Army Budget Cuts Leaves Only Two Combat Ready Brigades

The Army Chief of Staff says ongoing budget cuts have left them with only two combat ready brigades.

General Ray Odierno says troops are headed to Afghanistan only qualified for training or advising missions and are not trained for combat.

The service hopes to have seven trained and equipped brigades prepared for combat by June 2014.

The army is looking at another round of sequestration.

Funding cuts are impacting training, operations and acquisitions.

The new continuing resolution passed by Congress last week leaves sequestration in place and gives the DOD little leeway on where cuts will be made.
