American Airlines Debuts New Logo

American Airlines revealed its new logo today inside an airplane hanger at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.

It features a more vibrant red, white and blue, with the American flag a more prominent part of the airplane's tail.

The eagle has also been updated.

This is the first redesign since 1968 and the CEO, Tom Horton, says the company didn't make the change lightly.
"It has been over 40 years since American changed its look and feel. I was in the second grade. Nixon was in the White House. It's been a long time, but it is time for change."

In the coming weeks, American is expected to make an announcement on its future and whether it will merge with US Airways or emerge from bankruptcy as a standalone carrier.
