Saliba was a role model for the citizens in the wiregrass.
“I’ve been working with Alfred since 1962. That’s a long time, and I’ve never known anyone more fair and honest than Alfred.” Dothan’s former mayor Jimmy Grant said.
Saliba was known for pouring everything he had into the community to make it better for residents.
“He was a long range planner and one of his goals and I think the success of Dothan was he could see the future and make good strategies for our community.” Saliba’s former secretary Frances Cook said.
One of his greatest achievements, the Alfred Saliba center.
“I think this was one of his most crowning achievements and he always said that to us anyway so I do believe he was a very honest man.” Executive Director of the Alfred Saliba Center Linda O’Connell said.
The center has helped people find jobs, and continues to help families learn to interact better with one another.
This center was the first of its kind in the state, and gave other cities a model to follow.
“The most important thing, if you’ve made a difference in someone’s life he made a difference in so many people’s lives, not only here in Dothan but in the state. We are going to miss him so much.” O’Connell said.
“He was one of the most caring people not only for his family and friends but for his community he was just outstanding to work for. I learned a lot from him.” Cook said.
“People will remember him for a long, time for the things he has done for the community,” Grant said.
Grant knows his name will become a piece of history for the wiregrass.
On top of being a great leader for the community, Saliba also served as mayor of Dothan for two terms.
