ALBANY, Ga. (AP) -- An Albany city commissioner is accused of leaving a local hotel with an $11,000 catering and events bill.
The Albany Hilton Garden Inn on Wednesday sued Ward III Commissioner Christopher Pike, who signed a contract on March 9 with the Hilton to host the Albany Area Black Expo, for failure to pay. The event was planned as a five-day conference with networking opportunities, seminars and clinics with major corporate sponsors.
In a statement, Pike says the economic downturn has affected his business and that he accepts responsibility for his actions.
Pike is facing additional legal and financial woes related to the event.
Pike still has 16 months left on his term and has not decided whether he will seek re-election.
