Alabama is cracking down on prescription drug abusers.
The Alabama legislation has passed a three-bill package aimed at stopping painkiller abuse.
The bills help track prescriptions for painkillers, find patients that visit multiple doctors to get a prescription and give new power to the State Board of Medical Examiners.
"We have a lot more use of prescription medications for people using them for purposes than what they were prescribed for, of course if you look around the country and you look locally they is a lot of misuse of prescription medication and it is even causing death," said Repesentative Dexter Grimsley.
Officials say one in five Amaericans have abused prescription painkillers.
