LEIGHTON, Ala. (AP) -- An Alabama town is facing a financial crisis as its revenues are nearly depleted.
The TimesDaily reports (http://bit.ly/VBxT56) that Leighton City Clerk Destin Berryman told council members of the situation during a special meeting on Monday.
Councilman Andre McGahee said the town has about $1,500 in two accounts.
Acting Mayor C.S. Elkins says the problem is simple: The town is not bringing in enough revenue to pay its obligations.
John Landers says he will be tackling the problem once he takes office as mayor, and pledged to find out how the town's money has been spent in recent years.
Landers also said he will not accept a salary as mayor until the town's financial issues are resolved.
