Alabama Political Leaders Ban Together with a National Coalition for Voting Rights

Alabama political leaders are banding together with a National Coalition for Voting Rights.

Yesterday, Democratic Senator Hanks Sanders, Tuskeegee Mayor Johnny Ford and others announced Tuesday, Aug. 6 will be National Voting Rights Day.

They want the day to be a call to action to save Section 5 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

Leaders say it is the most effective piece of Civil Rights Legislation in history. The US Supreme Court recent invalidated a key part of the Voting Rights Act.

The coalition is planning events across Alabama and in other States on Aug. 6.
