MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- A former Montgomery resident says the theft of his identity has cost him his job, at least for now his career in the Air National Guard and left him thousands of dollars in debt.
Purdy, an Air National Guard major, says his life is now a struggle and the theft of his identity ripped his credit apart.
U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson last week sentenced 41-year-old Angeline Austin of Montgomery to more than six years in prison for stealing the identities of Zane Purdy and hundreds of others by accessing a Troy hospital's data base.
Purdy said he found out early in 2012 from the U.S. Attorney's office that someone had gained access to his personal information.
Then he received notice that he owed the IRS more than $10,000.
