Employees at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine site have been working long hours to make sure this building will be completed on time.
“We are working seven days during the week and we have people at the job site from six in the morning to six at night.” Senior Project Manager Conn Crabtree said.
And their hard work has paid off.
“Basically the concrete structure behind us is all poured out, the structures complete. Right now we are starting with exterior framing and starting to put the mainstream on the outside of the building.” Crabtree said.
To honor the workers for their dedication to this project, the construction site held a topping out celebration Friday.
“Traditionally the topping outs done at the completion of the construction work. The structure has been completed about three weeks, but this has given us time to get the rest of the building to where we could have the celebration.” Crabtree said.
“It’s actually exciting. It’s fun to see all the activities that take place on a daily basis and how it all comes together. To see a bunch of grown men work together for one common goal.” Project superintendent Tony Smith said.
A common goal that will be a big deal for the city.
“And we know what a project this size can do to the community and what it will offer the citizens later on and it's the profile of the community.” Crabtree said.
The interior wall framings are 70 percent complete the roofing about 60 percent.
The next phase will be to frame the walls, close them in, and put on the finishing touches.
The roof should be finished by the middle of august.
The building will be dried by the end of September so they can start the interior finishes, drywall cabinetry, and flooring.
