Alabama Career Center Offers Vocational Training

Alabama Career Center employees say skills are needed to fill vacant jobs in our area and for those who still need to build a resume, the center says training and career planning is available.

Alabama Career Center is teaming up with residents to get the Wiregrass back to work.

"We work with clients to give them information and guidance on job vocations that are actually hiring at this time, " says Pamela Cutchens, Office Manager at Alabama Career Center.

But before getting started on a career path, there are few things the center can help job seekers do.

"They go thru an assessment to determine various things regarding their interest and their work skills and that sort of thing and then we use that information to help them put together a plan".

A plan for local residents, that if eligible, can lead to some extra money.

"We can assist people from time to time with some tuition assistance. It is an eligibility program it's not an entitlement program. It is for career technical training and short term career tech training," says Cutchens.

Career center officials say they offer a number of courses but some career fields are more in demand than others.

"Healthcare is a good field to train in, of course electrical trades, industrial maintenance, pluming and welding, those areas are very good areas too. You can make a good living".

The Career Center is just one of many places were people can find work. The Alfred Saliba Family Services Center also helps people job search and obtain technical training.
