MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The Alabama Academy of Honor will add three members during a ceremony Monday at the state Capitol.

Academy Chairman Catherine Randall said this year's honorees are Birmingham attorney Fournier "Boots" Gale III, former House Speaker Seth Hammett, and Protective Life Insurance Co. CEO John D. Johns.

The Legislature created the academy in 1965 to recognize Alabamians for their outstanding accomplishments and services. Membership is limited to 100 living Alabamians.

Gale is a founding partner of the Maynard Cooper and Gale law firm. Hammett is a former bank president in Andalusia and is now a vice president at PowerSouth Energy Cooperative. Johns is a former Sonat executive who joined Protective Life in Birmingham 11 years ago.
