BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say a Birmingham man has been sentenced for selling heroin that led to a man's death.

Authorities said in a statement Tuesday that 31-year-old Harold Donnell Mims was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison in the death of a 28-year-old man at a Tuscaloosa apartment complex.

Prosecutors say Mims also sold heroin to a police informant and to undercover officers. Authorities say police were monitoring Mims in February when he sold heroin to a Northport man who died after using it.

Officials say Mims was indicted in September on drug distribution charges along with nearly 50 other heroin dealers in northern Alabama.

Prosecutors say of 49 defendants, 39 have thus far pleaded guilty and one was convicted during a trial.
