BOAZ, Ala. (AP) -- Boaz officials have fired the city's fire chief for using a pen to record interviews without employees' knowledge.
Fire Chief Mike Sparks was terminated Monday after city officials said he violated the city's employee handbook. Reports say that Sparks used the device to record July interviews with four candidates for captain.
Sparks says he made the recordings because he has difficulty remembering things.
City Attorney Danny Smith says the chief should have told people they were being recorded.
